Leather can be classified into different varieties based on the animal skin or hide from which it is made. The most common type of leather is made from cattle like cow, sheep, buffalo, ox, lamb, pig etc. This is the cheapest variety of leather as the animals are reared for meat or milk and their skins or hides are only a byproduct of the meat industry. Some of the animals reared for fur or skin or hides are deer, ostrich, elk etc. Another type of leather is produced from animals like crocodile, snake, alligator, kangaroo, bison etc. Some of these animals have been hunted almost near to extension and so at present is illegal to hunt them for any reason. This makes it dearer in the leather industry and is the costliest type of leather. |
